DeepSeek Took 53% of OpenRouter Tokens in One Day

Dirac data for November 3 shows one Chinese lab took more than half of OpenRouter's 27 trillion daily tokens. Open-weights labs lead overall.

DeepSeek accounted for 53% of all tokens on OpenRouter on November 3. The platform’s total volume for the day was about 27 trillion tokens.

Labs that publish the weights of their models openly made up more than 75% of the day’s traffic combined. That follows from the Dirac dashboard of token share by lab, discussed in the r/LocalLLaMA community. The figures come from that data and were not published by OpenRouter itself.

OpenRouter is a service where one account gives access to models from many companies, billed by usage. A token is the unit of volume here: roughly a syllable or a short word. Share of tokens shows whose models were called most often, not how much money they earned.

Open weights means the model files are published, so anyone can download them and run the model on their own computer or server. In January 2025 DeepSeek released its R1 model this way under the MIT license, one of the most permissive. KRAKOBIT has also covered another open model: local Qwen 3.8 reaching 300 tokens per second on an RTX 5090 plus 5060 Ti.
