Mistral Large 4 lands on Hugging Face
Hugging Face has introduced Mistral Large 4, the new generation of Mistral AI's flagship model. What is known about the release and what is still missing.
Hugging Face published a post on October 28, 2026 about Mistral Large 4, the new version of the flagship line from French company Mistral AI. The post is titled “Welcome Le Chonk”. That is the usual way the platform greets notable model releases.
The Large line is Mistral AI’s top tier: the biggest and most capable models the company makes. The number 4 marks the next generation, and a listing on Hugging Face puts the model on the largest hub for AI models.
The catch: being hosted on the platform does not by itself mean open weights or a permissive license. The available material contains no verified data on model size, usage terms, access pricing or benchmark results, so there is nothing solid to compare it against rivals with yet.
The name “Le Chonk” reads like a joke: a French article plus English slang for something big and heavy. The actual specifications remain outside what could be confirmed.
